Auto resizing multiple cells in LibreOffice spreadsheet

When I export a Google Docs spreadsheet into OpenDocument format, it will open in LibreOffice calc with the height of each cell wildly different. No idea why. It seems people can get the same problem when pasting content into a LibreOffice spreadsheet.

To auto-resize the height and width of all cells in a sheet, so that they are optimal (i.e. no spurious whitespace), do the following:

  1. Select all cells with ctrl-a.
  2. Format -> Row -> Optimal Height…
    • In the ‘Optimal Row Height’ dialog box I left the ‘Default value’ ticked which gives a 0.0 cm ‘Add’ value.
    • Click OK and the row heights should be automatically adjusted, just as if you’d double clicked on a row separator.
  3. Format -> Column -> Optimal Width…
    • In the ‘Optimal Column Width’ dialog box I left the ‘Default value’ ticked which gives a 0.2 cm ‘Add’ value.
    • Click OK and the column widths should be automatically adjusted, just as if you’d double clicked on a column separator.
