Hotmail notes

Notes about Hotmail.

Send from another address

Go to ‘Options -> (More Options ->) Sending/receiving e-mail from other accounts’ and ‘Add another account to send mail from’.

After verifying the address (by following the link they’ll email to the new address), you’ll be able to select the address as your From address when sending email via Hotmail. Do this by selecting the address that appears above the To field when composing an email (you’ll see a small arrow there, though it’s far from obvious).

Note that this will not stop the receiver being able to see the original e-mail address by inspecting the e-mail headers for the Received and Sender data, but these normally don’t show up by default in mail clients.

Prevent hotmail automatically adding full name to emails

Hotmail will automatically add your full name to emails (to the From header). Since Windows Live requires that you provide a surname and there aren’t any privacy settings to prevent it being hidden, the only way around this is to change your surname. I use a full stop. Unfortunately you can’t get away with a space.

Change your surname via Profile -> Edit details -> Edit (next to your name).
