I bought a 29er Specifically a Gary Fisher Mamba 29er. It’s served me well on my London commute (8 miles of roads and commons/parks), at least it has since I swapped out those chunky tyres for narrower ones, after losing the front end one too many times on the road in the wet! Now I skid on the grass instead of the road, which is much more compatible with life.
Here are some notes about it.
Specification
These are the details from Trek’s archive page about the Mamba, which doesn’t seem to exist any more. Lucky I took a copy when I bought the bike: TrekBikes.com Bike Archive | 2011 Mamba

Spoke sizing
So far I know they’re standard UK 14g (2mm) spokes - see my spoke sizing page - but I’m not sure of the lengths yet. They are around 29cm, but the front seems to have longer spokes one side to the other as the wheel is asymmetric.
I contacted Trek to ask (and I believe Trek own Bontrager) but they said that they didn’t know and that I should measure an existing spoke or have my local bike shop sort it out.
TODO: Measure spoke!
