- Frank Duff - A Coder in Courierland An article by an ex coder who gave up their job to become a cycle courier (this article is also at kuro5hin, where it's followed by discussion). I was instantly fascinated by this article because I'm both a coder and interested in cycling. I personally wouldn't ditch my job to become a courier, but it's romantic idea.

- Travelling Salesman Problem Graphical representation (Java applet) of the classic problem.
- Acronym Server Good for finding computer related acronyms. Otherwise go to Acronym Finder as it's far more comprehensive.
- Mini ITX Cool computer mods.
- Progenic List of hacking resources.
- Weird Error Messages A techy wiki page giving weird error messages and often their explanations too.
- Gamasutra Exchange Objects for games. I like the page because it gives an indication of the reality that computer graphics can currently achieve (in a commercial product).
- KASY0 A powerful supercomputer built using basic desktop PCs. Holds the world record for price/performance.
- Obsolete Computer Museum Pics and details about a number of now obsolete computers.
- Heavy Metal Work log of the guy (I assume) who built Heavy Metal, a computer mod that looks vaguely like a truck.
- Alex Fauland's easy to use tools and utilities Useful file splitter, find and replace, merge and renaming utilities, amongst others. All freeware but I've not tried any yet. This link is here for future reference.
- BookmarkBridge Open Source multi-platform utility for synchronising bookmarks across different browsers (IE, NS, Mozilla, etc).
- OpenDeveloper.org Dedicated to Open Source website development. Have a page on how to find and replace a string in multiple files using perl.
- Unicode Code Charts In PDF format.
- smutcraft This guy has generated stats on the OSs and web servers used by porn sites. Quite justified as far as I'm concerned given that porn is the reason most people use the WWW anyway.
- Insecure.Org A hacker's site. Lots of info on the nmap security scanner and a list of the top 75 security tools.
- SiteSeer computer science directory Scientific literature digital library. There is also a search page.
- Mozilla Possibly the best internet suite in the world. Use Mozilla Firefox if you just want a fast browser. Also check out Mozilla's Command Line Options.
- Firefox FAQ Good FAQs. Useful instructions for installing the Java and Flash plugins.
- 101 things that the Mozilla browser can do that IE cannot.

- O'Reilly Network Developers' Hub. A collection of articles on computing. I found some nice articles such as Speeding up Linux Using hdparm and Understanding Rootkits.
- Privacy.net In a world of increasing information flow, see how much can be found out about you when visiting a site.
- What Is? Introductions to a huge number of computer technologies and links to further information.
- Tutorial Find Search for tutorials.
- Tucows My software library of choice. Good for programs for various operating systems (Linux, Mac, Windows, OS2, BeOS...).
- Download.com A huge software library, but with focus on Windows.
- GNU home GNU is Not Unix.
- Yahoo computers Search for any computer related sites. Found a nice list of AI companies there.
- UMCS Software Links University of Manchester (Computer Science) software links.
- AIG Home of the Advanced Interfaces Group at Manchester uni. - VR stuff.
- Bio Motion Lab ...from the psychology dept in Ruhr University (Bochum). As a nice example see this articulated figure motion. Click "lines" for a better impression of the figure.
- VRepar Virtual Reality Environments in Psycho-neuro-physiological Assessment and Rehabilitation. Basically, VR in medicine and psychology.
- HMS Center for Human Modeling and Simulation at the uni. of Pennsylvania. Some of the top names in the field are based here.
- CV Online On-line compendium of computer vision.
- Zoom This is primarily a fasion portal, but they offer free web space with no ads and email (but check the conditions). My site was hosted on their servers (at pages.zoom.co.uk/stephandale/).
- Brinkster A good web-hosting service. Provides free ASP and MS Access support.

- Radified Info. for the digital age. Found a useful guide to ASPI here.

- The Stairway To Hell BBC Micro and Electron site. I may use it in the future when I'm bored enough to install an emulator and re-live the good-ole-days.
- Phil Storr's PC Hardware Book Serves as a nice intro. to PC hardware. I wanted it for the section How does EIDE work ?.
- The Enhanced IDE/Fast-ATA FAQ Lots of info. about hard disks (the section How does EIDE work ? in Phil Storr's PC Hardware Book is suspiciously similar. Who stole what from whom I've no idea).
- The Complete Guide on DMA, UDMA An intro. to the differences between DMA and UDMA.
- The Hardware Book A collection of connector pinouts and cable descriptions. Haven't used yet, but I hope it'll come in handy in the future.
- WebAttack.com Freeware & shareware. I found good freeware file recovery tools for NTFS, as well as sharware ones.

- RapidSVN A GUI Subversion client.
- Linux Commands A table of useful Linux commands. The emphasis is on operations you'd need to perform rather than individual commands, so there are lots of composite command sequences, amalgamated using pipes.
- SystemRescueCD In their own words, "SystemRescueCd is a linux system on a bootable cdrom for repairing your system and your data after a crash". I've used it (mainly for QtParted) and I recommend it. You can put it on a USB stick too.
- Running Windows applications on Linux using Wine This particular page is for how to install IE6.
- rc.d init.d Basic notes on the differences between the BSD-style and SystemV startup methods, from a sys admin's blog called SysAdmin1138.

- Bookmark Converter A shareware tool that can convert, merge and synchronise bookmarks from all most browsers (IE, NS, Mozilla, etc). It nearly worked for me - I got an access violation when I tried to synchronise bookmarks, but if it had worked it would have been a very useful tool! I'll try it again some time.
- Actual Search and Replace Find and replace blocks of text in multiple files. Shareware.
