The help system in OpenOffice.org 2.0 will not work if it was not compiled with java support, so you will receive the following message when opening the help:
The help file for this topic is not installed.
Recompile openoffice with the java USE flag. To do this, either add it to /etc/portage/package.use to apply the flag to openoffice only:
app-office/openoffice java
At the time of writing, with the use flags set for my system, the following packages will be installed.
localhost steph # emerge -av openoffice
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]
Once java is installed you can add the java flag to the USE variable in /etc/make.conf so that all new packages will use it (and all existing packages will use it when they're rebuilt, provided you use emerge's --newuse flag of course).
