It seems that OS X (Snow Leopard) has a /home directory that is mounted but unused.
You can not delete it:
rm: home: Resource is busy
Just making note of the fact, because it really threw me when I wrote a script and accidentally wrote ‘home’ instead of ‘Users’ (the location of the OS X home directories) - I thought my script had created it!
